MIUWU 204 was established in 1959 in the Naval Reserve Harbor Defense Division, evolving into Inshore Undersea Warfare Division in 1965, The unit had homes at Fort Hancock on the Sandy Hook peninsula and onboard the Naval Air Engineering Station at Lakehurst before moving to Fort Dix in the early 1990s.
Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Unit 204 is comprised of 10-fulltime support, 11 officers and 83 enlisted billets. The unit is on call to travel around the world supporting Navy missions.
In June 2002 MIUWU 204 deployed to Guantanamo Bay to provide seaward security and survellance. Preparing for their mission, the underwater warfare unit completed rigorous training in exercises held at Williamsburg, Va.
