On April 1st, 1963 it was reorganized and redesignated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 228th Supply and Transportation Battalion, with Headquarters at Fort Indian Town Gap, and assigned to the 28th Infantry Division.

On March 1st, 1992 the unit was expanded and redesignated as 228th Support Battalion (Forward), 28th Infantry Division (MECH). In 2005, the battalion participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom IV and Task Force Katrina.
