In February 2006, the Division Support Command, 82nd Airborne Division was reorganized and redesignated as the 82nd Sustainment Brigade, to which the 7th Transportation Battalion subsequently became assigned. As of July 2006, the 7th Transporation Battalion was attached to the 1 Brigade, 34th Division, operating in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The 7th Transportation Battalion was inactivated 19 August 2011 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
