The Regimental Support Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment was formed on 11 November 1977, and given the mission of executing logistical operations for the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. The Support Squadron promptly adopted the nickname "Muleskinner" from the original teamsters who conducted logistical operations by wagon trains for the Regiment of Mounted Riflemen during its early years
