The 278th is headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee. It is the only enhanced Armored Cavalry Regiment in the National Guard and one of only two in the United States Army. The regiment was called to active duty and mobilized as the 278th Regimental Combat Team. Mobilization training was completed at Camp Shelby, Mississippi in November 2004 and they are currently deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 278th Regimental Combat Team includes units from Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Vermont.
