589th Brigade Support Battalion "Iron Caissons"

As of January 2006, 589th Support Battalion, part of the 4th Infantry Division's Fires Brigade, had been operating out of Camp Liberty, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

After returning from its deployment to Iraq in 2006, the unit was inactivated and relieved from assignment to the 4th Infantry Division. It was reorganized and redesignated as the 589th Brigade Support Battalion and reactivated as part of the reorganized and redesignated 41st Fires Brigade at Fort Hood, Texas. The 41st Fires Brigade was designated as the III Corps Fires Brigade intended to support the 1st Cavalry Division.
