3rd Infantry Division
By tradition, all 3rd Infantry Division coins carry the image of their mascot, a bulldog drawn by Walt Disney for the unit. But during the war in Iraq, the unit leadership made the decision to omit the image due to the sensitivities of the Iraqi people, who would have viewed it as an insult. Iraqi's generally view dogs as being "unclean." The bite mark in the corner of the coin was chosen instead to represent the unit's tradition of being known as "the Dogfaced Soldiers".
