The " Black Lions" deployed with the 4IBCT to Salah ad Din province in August, 2009, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. They operated in the cities of Balad, Ad Dujayl and Samarra.

The 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division is scheduled to inactivate in Summer 2015.
