Narrative

Diamond shaped, pewter colored coin 2 inches wide x 2 inches high.

The 12th Infantry Regiment is one of the oldest and most decorated units of the United States Army. The Regiment has fought in seven wars from the Civil War to the Global War on Terrorism and has been awarded nineteen Presidential Unit Citations, five Valorous Unit Awards and the Belgian Fourragere.

The coin was struck to honor and commemorate seven of their members who died in action during a deployment to Iraq in 2007. At the time, the Regiment was under the operational control of the 2nd Infantry Division. The unit is currently assigned to the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, at Fort Carson, Colorado.
