Round shaped, brass colored coin, 1-1/2 inches in diameter.
SIDE 1 - On a royal blue field, a brass "Fighting Sebee" logo with a brass numeral, "28" below; surrounded by a brass rope border, further surrounded by a wide antique brass band with the unit designation above and "THE OLD PROS" below; further surrounded by a brass border.
SIDE 2 - A leafy bed surmounted by a crossed rifle and saber surmounted by a "Fighting Seabee" logo; the words, "PRESENTED BY" above and acronym "S3C" below; a series of Seabee work emblems scattered around the outer edge; all surrounded by an oblique line border - all in various shades of brass.
Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 28 (NMCB-28) "The Old Pros"
NMCB 28 was a component of the Naval Construction Force (NCF), and provided construction and maintenance support to United States Marine Corps (USMC), Naval Forces and other military units. Its mission was to provide disaster control effort, provide forces for Civic Action support; provide military and amphibious assault construction support; and provide subsequent combat service support ashore and defense against overt or clandestine enemy attacks directed toward personnel, camps, and facilities under construction.
NMCB 28 deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom returned in October 2008. As the result of budget cutting efforts across the Department of Defense, the Navy decommissioned Naval Mobile Construction Battalions 28 at the conclusion of fiscal year 2014.
