SIDE 2
Following the events of 11 September 2001, the unit immediately became actively engaged in the Global War on Terror (subsequently known as Overseas Contingency Operations), deploying Soldiers to Afghanistan in support of the 82nd Airborne Division during Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2003, the unit deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom, supporting units such as the 3rd Corps Support Command and 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment.
In 2005 it deployed again to Iraq, supporting the 3rd Corps Support Command and 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. After returing from that deployment it became part of the transformation of the US Army to the modular force structure. Previously an element assigned to the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) at Fort Polk, Louisiana, the 142nd Corps Support Battalion was reorganized and redesignated as the 142nd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion and reassigned to the 15th Sustainment Brigade, an element of the 13th Sustainment Battalion (Expeditionary). As a result it moved from Fort Polk to Fort Hood, Texas.
