On 1 June 2006, the 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment was assigned to the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 2ne Infantry Division. On 17 March 2014, the battalion was assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division and activated at Fort Carson, Colorado.
