The unit reorganized and redesignated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 184th Transportation Brigade on 1 February 1972 and remained in this capacity until 2003 when the unit was reorganized as, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 184th Transportation Command Element

A 48 person contingent of the 184th TCE was mobilized and deployed to Southwest Asia in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom on 6 December 2004. Upon arrival in theater the unit was designated the 184th Container Management Element. The team returned on 23 December 2005.

A second contingent of 32 personnel from this unit was also mobilized and deployed to Southwest Asia to provide Relief-In-Place to the first increment on 25 October 2005. On 5 December 2006 the second increment redeployed to Laurel, Mississippi completing a two year deployment mission.

On 15 July 2006 the unit was reorganized and redesignated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 184th Expeditionary Sustainment Command and received Federal recognition on 1 December 2006.
