The 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion if one of two active duty amphibian Battalions in the United States Marine Corps.The battalion's primary weapons system is the Amphibious Assault Vehicle which can carry up to 18 combat-loaded Marines and is armed with a .50 cal M2HB machine gun and a Mk-19 40 mm grenade launcher. It is the only armored vehicle in the US Inventory that is fully capabile of operations on both land and in the ocean.
