Round shaped coin, pewter in color, 1 3/4 inches in diameter.

SIDE 1 - Stylized pewter-colored, diving hawk with following speed marks, boxing gloves and a WW I-type helmet; and overhead, the Arabic numerals "2" and "3" all embossed and surrounded by a wavy pewter-colored border.

SIDE 2 - Head-on view of a propeller aircraft with overhead, the motto, "Once a Hawk...",and 180 degrees to it, the head-on view of a jet aircraft with overhead, the motto, "Always a Hawk!", to the left, the motto, "First in", to the right, the motto, Last out" and from the wing tips and below a series of six 4-pointed stars; surrounding all that, a wide border listing 12 historical and current propeller and jet aircraft; all the above pewter-colored and embossed and surrounded by a wavy pewter-colored border.

The 23rd fighter Squadron was inactivated on 13 August 2010.
