Round shaped coin, antique brass in color, 1 3/4 inches in diameter.

SIDE 1 - On a brass colored disk, a circular sunburst symbol surrounded by a wide band with the words. "CLIMB TO GLORY," surmounted by a white stylized mountain with blue "water" around its base, further surmounted by a pair of red crossed bayonets and the blue number, "2"; along the top edge, the name. "2D BRIGADE," along the bottom edge and spreading up both sides, the words, "10TH MOUNTAIN DIVISION (LIGHT INFANTRY).

SIDE 2 - On a round brass field, a 3-peaked gray mountain capped in white,surmounted by a bald eagle in flight reaching for a 10th Mountain Division insignia with a ribbon banner around the foot of the mountain with the words, "SOMALIA*HAITI*BOSNIA* AFGHANISTAN;" surrounded by a wide band with narrow borders with the words, "COMMANDO" along the top edge, and "PRESENTED FOR EXCELLENCE" along the bottom edge.

The 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division is a infantry Brigade Combat Team of the United States Army based at Fort Drum, New York. It is a subordinate unit of the 10th Mountain Division. Activated in 1985, the 10th Mountain Division's second brigade's elements saw numerous deployments to contingencies around the world in the 1990s. With the Global War on Terrorism the brigade has deployed six times: initially deployed to Uzbekistan, Kuwait and Qatar in 2001, elements of the brigade later deployed from Uzbekistan into Afghanistan; the brigade deployed again in early 2003, split across Iraq, Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa; the entire brigade returned to Iraq in 2004-2005, 2006-2007 and 2009-2010 before return to Afghanistan in 2013 for its sixth deployment. On February 26, 2015, the Associated Press reported that officials at Fort Drum said that about 1,660 members of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team will deploy in the spring and summer to southern Afghanistan as part of the Resolute Support Mission. It will be the brigade's fourth deployment to Afghanistan.
