Following the events of 9-11, the unit immediately became actively engaged in the Global War on Terror, deploying Soldiers to Afghanistan in suport if the 82nd Airborne Division during Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2003, the unit deployed for Operation Iraqi freedom, supporting units such as the 3rd Corps Support Command and the 3rd Armored Cavalry Division. In 2005 it deployed again to Iraq, supporting the 3rd Corps Support Command and the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. After returning from that deployment, it became part of the transformation of the US Army to the modular force structure. Previously an element assigned to the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, Louisiana, the 142nd Corps Support Battalion was reorganized as the 142nd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion and reassigned to the 15th Sustainment Brigade. As a result, it moved from Fort Polk, Louisiana to Fort Hood, Texas.
