NMCB 17 "Desert Battalion"

The mission of NMCB-17 is to provide and maintain a trained, ready, and immediately available Naval Construction Battalion, meeting the requirements of the Naval Construction Force for employment as may be directed by the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) in the event of war, national emergency, or when otherwise authorized by law.

NMCB-17 is a Battalion of the 1st Naval Construction Regiment, within the 3rd Naval Construction Brigade. The 3rd Naval Construction Brigade Seabees consist of both Active and Reserve units, serving as an integral part of the U.S. Pacific Fleet.

NMCB-17 is a routinely deployable unit, standing ready to provide construction support for Navy, Marine Corps, and other organizations. To be prepared, reservists train in both technical and tactical skills. The primary focus of the Reserve units during their Active Training (AT) time is readiness training, and the maintenance and repair of Fleet activities.
