The coin was presented by the Command Sergeant Major of US Forces, Afghanistan.

The coin was donated by SGT Michael Zimmerman who was assigned to the Medical Detachment, D Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th General Support Aviation Regiment, Pennsylvania Army National Guard. The unit's home base is Johnstown, Pennsylvania and the unit was deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan.
