Narrative
Round shaped coin, antique brass in color, 2 inches in diameter.
The 9th Infantry Regiment (Manchu) is one of the oldest and most decorated active duty infantry units in the US Army. It consists of 2 Battalions: the 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment is assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division's 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team At Camp Hovey Korea; the 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment is assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division's 4th Stryker Brigade in Fort Lewis Washington.
The coin donor, MAJ Ruths, writes: "The reverse (of the coin) shows a soldier walking with a rucksack and rifle and says 'I WALKED THE MANCHU MILE' and 'KEEP UP THE FIRE' which is the 9th Infantry Regiment's motto dating back to their service during the Chinese Boxer Rebellion. The Manchu Mile is a 25-mile foot march (again, ties to the Boxer Rebellion) that the unit I commanded (E Co, 302nd Brigade Support Battalion) took part in during 2005. Each soldier that completed this march got this coin along with an official Manchu belt buckle."
