From The Times Picayune of New Orleans dated 8 January 2014: "Almost a year after they mobilized for war in Afghanistan, more than 150 soldiers with a Louisiana Army National Guard unit are scheduled to arrive home to their headquarters in Reserve (Louisiana). The 1084th Transportation Company, which also has a detachment in Slidell (Louisiana), will not return unscathed, however, as it suffered the loss of one soldier while providing security escorts to convoys. SPC Christopher Drake, 20, of Tickfaw was killed in May while manning the gunner's turret in an armored vehicle that was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade. SPC Williams Hernandez of Kenner, was wounded in that attack and was awarded a Purple Heart in November"

The National Guard reports that, not to be left out, 70 of the soldiers of the 1084th received combat action badges during the deployment, meaning they either received or returned fire on the mission.
