During 2004-2005, the 2nd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, normally assigned to 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas, was deployed to Baghdad, Iraq to form Task Force Steel Dragons. The Task Force's mission was to provide convoy escort protection for employees of the US Embassy and members of the Multinational Forces Iraq wherever they traveled.
