SIDE 2 - The POW-MIA symbol surrounded from left to right with the seals of the U.S. Navy, Air Force, Army, Coast Guard and Marine Corps, all within a narrow gold border.
The POW-MIA symbol is a white disk on a black background bearing in black silhouette, the bust of a man facing right, a watch tower wirh a guard on patrol and a strand of barbed wire; above the disk are the white letters "POW - MIA" separated by a 5-pointed star; below the disk, a black and white wreath.
The POW - MIA symbol is taken from the POW - MIA flag which was designed in 1972 while the Vietnam War was still going on. On 10 August 1990, the 101st Congress recognized the flag as a symbol of the nation's concern and commitment to resolving as fully as possible the fates of Americans still held prisoner, missing and unaccounted for in Southeast Asia. Since then, it has become the symbol of prisoners of war and missing in action personnel from all subsequent conflicts
