From 1996 to 2012, the 233rd Transportation Company was headquartered at Fort Knox, Kentucky. They moved to fort Stewart, Georgia in 2012 following a deployment to Kuwait. The decision to move the heavy equipment transporters was made to better support the trainng needs of the unit and the transportation needs of the three heavy brigade combat teams at Fort Stewart.
The unit participated in combat campaigns during World War II, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Since 2003, the 233rd Trans. Co. has received five Meritorious Unit Citations and its Soldiers have covered 8,450,000 miles and delivered 247,036 tons of equipment (as of March 2012).
