21st Combat Support Hospital trains, deploys, and provides Level III combat health support (CHS) and additional medical functional areas as task organized; on order, provides Command, Control, Communication, Computers and Intelligence (C4I) for CHS in support of decisive combat and follow-on operations.
The unit was deployed to Southwest Asia on 3 Jul 1991 and provided medical services in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. The 21st Combat Support Hospital was deployed to Bosnia with Operation Joint Endeavor/Joint Guard from Nov 1996 to Apr1997. They returned to Bosnia with Operation Joint Forge from Sep 1999 to Mar 2000 and deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from Jan to Jun 2002.
The 21st Combat Support Hospital deployed to Iraq in March 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I. The unit was deployed until March 2004, when it redeployed to Fort Hood, Texas.
