The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary was established in 1914. Their mission is to serve the veterans of this country and its communities in honor of the sacrifices and commitment of every man and woman who has served in overseas combat. It has nearly 470,000 members in more than 4,000 chapters nationwide who volunteer millions of hours and raise millions of dollars for charitable projects that benefit veterans, military service personnel and their families. Until last year, the organization was made up expclusively of women. 2016 will be their first full year of having men as members.
