On 6 November 2008, the National Training Center (NTC) Support Brigade was realigned, becoming the 916th Support Brigade in order to optimize the flexible support of the evolving training needs of the Army and the enabling Joint Services, and the ever-changing landscape of the Global War on Terrorism. This transition included the transformation of the NTC Corps Support Battalion first to the 1916th Combat sustainment support Battalion and then to the 1916th Support Battalion. The Echelon-Above-Brigade Support Battalion transformed to the General Support Aviation Battalion (GSAB), unifying the separate aviation companies under and aviation battalion headquarters. On 15 September 2011, the GSAB was redesignated the 2916th Aviation Battalion, operating under the 916th Support Brigade.
