The mission of the 782nd Brigade Support Battalion it to plans, coordinates, synchronizes, monitors, and controls Tactical Sustainment, Distribution, and Health Service Support Operations within the 4th Brigade Combat Team area of operation in order to sustain full spectrum combat operations.

On 15 January 2006, the entire 82nd Airborne Division began transformation to the US Army's new modular force structure. Under the new force structure various elements previously held at Division level were made organic components of reorganized Brigade Combat Teams.ach Division acquired a fourth Brigade Combat Team. As a result, the 782nd Main Support Battalion was inactivated and reactivated as the 782nd Brigade Support Battalion for the 82nd Division's 4th Brigade Combat Team.

Following the transformation elements of the 782nd Brigade Support Battalion followed the 4th Brigade Combat Team to Afghanistan where it deployed in support of NATO's International Security Assistance Force. The 4th Brigade Combat Team served into 2007, before returning to Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
