USS Alaska SSBN-732

USS Alaska (SSBN-732), is a United States Navy Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine which has been in commission since 1986. She is the fourth US Navy ship to be named for the Territory or State of Alaska. As is typical of other US submarines, the USS Alaska is manned by two crews (Blue & Gold) to maximize the time the boat spends at sea. While one crew is at sea, the other typically returns to home base to take on new crew members, train, and get some well deserved time off with their families.

A US Strategic Command news release dated 2 July 2019 stated that the USS Alaska (SSBN 732) arrived at Her Majesty's Naval Base Clyde, Scotland, for a scheduled port visit on 2 July 2019. While in port, they used the occasion to change crews and the home-bound blue crew transitioned through Bangor on 10 July from Scotland to their home base in King's Bay, Georgia.
