2nd Battalion (General Support), Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division
From a US Army News Release by SGT Patrick Jubrey, dated 20 March 2019:
GRAFENWOEHR TRAINING AREA, Germany - Soldiers from 2nd General Support Aviation Battalion, 1st Aviation Regiment, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division took part in training exercise "Dynamic Raid" alongside the 2nd Calvary Regiment on March 11-13, 2019. The purpose of this training exercise was to support a ground unit conducting an M777 gun raid. The 2-1 GSAB "Fighting Eagles" displayed their heavy lift capabilities with their CH-47 Chinooks and their ability to complete insertions and airlift transportation of supplies with their UH-60 Black Hawks.
A training exercise like this takes planning. Prior to the start of the mission, 2-1 GSAB integrated with the 2nd Calvary Regiment "Dragoons" for critical coordination and planning. The GSAB then established a forward arming and refueling point, or FARP, and the battalion tactical operations center. Once the Black Hawks completed their mission, six of the Fighting Eagles's Chinooks executed a gun raid. This included sling loading and forward positioning five M777 Ultralightweight Field Howitzer artillery pieces and their crews. This enabled the Dragoons to quickly focus combat power prior to their Table 18 gunnery and combined live fire exercise.
