The 1st Marine Regiment is an infantry regiment of the United States Marine Corps bases at Camp Pendleton, California. First organized in 1913, it was an active participant in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the War on Terror as well as a number of Caribbean actions referred to as the Banana Wars in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The regiment is under the command of the 1st Marine Division and the Marine Expeditionary Force. the unit has accumulated over two dozen unit citations during its valorous history and nineteen of its Marines have been awarded the Medal of Honor: 7 during World War II, 10 during the Korean Conflict, and 2 during the Vietnam War.
