The Texas Army National Guard is composed of approximately 19,000 soldiers and maintains 117 armories in 102 communities in Texas. State duties include disaster relief, emergency preparedness, security assistance to state law enforcement agencies, and some aspects of border security. In 2020, over 700 servicemen and women from the Texas Army National Guard were activated and deployed to the U.S. Command Area in support of Operation Spartan Shield. Deployment locations included Saudi Arabia, and Jordan. This coin commemorates that deployment.
