Narrative
SIDE 1: On a brass background, a spectral, ghoulish warrior armed with a bludgeon in one hand and a sword in the other, attended by a pair of snarling hyenas, all standing on a base emblazoned with the unit motto, “Ardeur et Tenacite” (zeal and Tenacity).
SIDE 2: On a brass background, a white shield at the top containing a snarling hyena and backed by a pair of crossed swords; below the shield, a brass engineer castle and the coin number 498; all surrounded by a wide black border inscribed with a saying from a Norse poem, “A fool believes that he will ever live if he keeps from strife, but old age leaves him not long in peace though spears did spare his life”
