This 2nd Battalion, 142nd Infantry Regiment coin celebrates the exploits of the 4th Texas Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. The 4th Texas was one of 3 regiments in the Texas Brigade of General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. During its existence, 1,343 men were assigned to the 4th Texas Infantry. Of that number, 256 (19%) were killed or mortally wounded in battle. Another 468 (35.9%) were wounded, many more than once, for the total number of wounds suffered by theRegiment in four years of fighting amounted to 606. One of the early commanders of the 4th Texas was COL John D. Hood, for which Fort Hood, Texas was named.
